Why Discord?

One of our core values in Foothills Paddling Club is to promote healthy community. We realize that traditional social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, have become become noisy and, in some cases, toxic. We know that more and more people are choosing to either take a break from social media or cancel their accounts altogether and we think that it is unfortunate that social media has led us to this place. However, we still want to provide a place for healthy discourse and community engagement online. That is why we partnered with Discord to provide a private server for members to discuss their paddling adventures.

We have chosen Discord because it allows for more organized, healthier conversation and gives us better moderation tools. Posts are organized more like a chat room where they are displayed chronologically instead of some nebulous algorithm choosing who gets to see what posts when.
